Main content start

Return to June 2020 Update

Length:2 min read; 400 words.

Note: The following paragraphs summarize the category of Health and safety (of all, Including employees) observed in June. More information about the specific category from June (and previous months) can be found in the downloaded report(s).The number in square brackets (e.g., [30]) refers to a reference where the reader can find more information about a specific statement.  The references can be found in the References list below, Systematized References page or in the downloaded report.

H&S have been discussed more in June than in May (27.9% vs. 21.8%). This increase in June is due to a lack of firm clear official guidelines. Companies are hiring medical professionals for COVID-19 guidance, site visits and protocol development [220], and workplace re-entry [317]. The contractors report self-certification and self-policing regarding the H&S rules [221]. Due to disunite response to COVID-19 in the US, lawsuits are occurring to clarify if state safety violations are felonies [141] . The battle over wearing masks in the US [16][329][330] heightened in the second half of May and June is unthinkable in other parts of the world who are following scientists and doctors guidelines, and manage to contain the outbreaks. “When is the pandemic over?”; everybody asks. “Pandemic fatigue” is obvious, but until a vaccine is discovered, all should obey safety protocols and guidelines. [16][17][18]

Mental health crisis is following the COVID-19 health crisis – anxiety and depression due to quarantine, unemployment rates, and uncertainties in general. Reopening and workplace re-entry are marked with fears of virus contagion. [389] Neuroscientists and psychiatrists suggest that we can expect psychiatric and psychological problems after the pandemic, and provide methods on how to manage emotions in response to outside sources [390].

Every organization offers wellness programs and every individual can find help online for free. [228][391][392][393][394][395][396] Fireside chat webinars are ubiquitous. [397][398][399] [400] “Happiness” is the buzz word as the record unhappiness reigns in Americas (86%). [57] “Be kind to yourself and others.”[394] “Stay happy by following through on your commitments; having a mindset of giving; treating your body like a sacred temple; and putting family first." [401] Ingenious ideas are coming up to help and make other people happy; an example of a Brazilian care home that created “hug tunnel” so loved ones can embrace elderly relatives [402]
