AbstractThis report outlines the conclusions of a research project to investigate the applicability of Electronics Models to support Internet Bidding. The research project incorporated field studies and interviews to document existing practice, as well as the implementation of prototype bid applications. We identified the major problems with existing practice to be lost information, costly search, redundancies, missed opportunities and inefficient document processing. Through our prototyping, we identified the difficulty for existing XML standards to support complex engineering information. The major prerequisites for AEC Internet bidding are: rating systems, industry standards, differentiation of processes, and scale.
