32nd AEC Global Teamwork Annual Event

The 32nd AEC Global Teamwork event of the PBL lab held, and Winners of the sustainability IPD and technology challenges acknowledged.

We were excited to meet in person at Stanford and on Zoom for inspiring AEC global student team presentations and lively discussions/Q&A of their projects with industry mentors, announce the winners of this year’s 3 challenges – sustainability, IPD, and technology, and celebrate our AEC global teamwork journey.

 This year's theme was:
Generative Minds for a Better World: AI-Enhanced Collaboration and High-Performance Buildings

AEC global student teams were invited to address this year’s theme and the 3 challenges:

19th Sustainability Challenge: Time: Define Your Sustainability Impact in the Temporal Dimension

16th IPD Challenge: T-Mind: Cultivating a Team Mindset in support of Productivity in the Construction 4.0 Age

7th Technology Challenge: SIS Chain: Sustainable Intelligent Supply Chain
PBL Lab Liaison: Renate Fruchter, Ph.D. Founding Director of the PBL Lab, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Stanford University

We had 24 students from Stanford and 9 partner universities worldwide, representing 5 disciplines - architecture, structural and MEP engineering, construction management, and life cycle financial management (LCFM) coming originally from 16 countries. They engaged in three AEC-MEP-LCFM globally distributed project teams. They learned to collaborate and virtually design and build university buildings addressing local hazards such as earthquakes and hurricanes. 48 industry and faculty mentors participated in-person and another 30 mentors in zoom to discuss the student teams projects, team process, and proposals to address this year's theme and 3 challenges. The AEC student projects and presentatations were reviewed and evaluated by industry mentor-judges. The winners are:
