Michelle Kaufmann, Head of R&D Built Environment, Google

Michelle Kaufmann is an architect with a passion to make thoughtful, healthy buildings accessible to everyone. Michelle is the Architect-In-Residence at Google working on new campus buildings as well as Google’s Director of R+D for the Built Environment. Michelle has her own design Firm, Michelle Kaufmann Studio, specializing in sustainable, Modular construction for single-family, multi-family and mixed use design/build projects. Her firm was given the TOP FIRM AWARD by Residential Architect. Michelle has been called “the Henry Ford of green homes” by the Sierra Club and was named “Green Advocate of the Year” by the National Association of Home Builders, was included in Business 2.0 magazine’s list of “100 People Who Matter Now”, and was listed as one of the “The Green 50” by INC magazine.

Zhang Yue,
CEO and Chairman, Broad Group

Sustainable Building Co. Ltd (BSB)–a BROAD Group subsidiary specializing in the prefabrication and assembly of high-rise buildings. The initial emphasis for BROAD Group was in manufacturing–producing (non-electric) airconditioning systems for commercial buildings, and civil infrastructure facilities. With his abundant manufacturing experience, Zhang Yue resolved to revolutionize the construction of buildings by applying manufacturing industry processes and principles: factory-made components, quality management strategies, and energy- efficiency techniques. Broad Sustainable Building Co. Ltd has completed more than 30 pilot and commercial projects, including well-known projects such as Mini Sky City (J57), the 57-storey building erected in only 19 days, and  the 30-storey T30 building in 15 days and the 15-storey Newark Hotel in six days.

Armelle Coutant,

Armelle Coutant is a Stanford M.S. student in Sustainable Design & Construction (Sustainable Urban Systems track) and is currently a Teaching Assistant for an Urban Development and Governance course. She completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford with a double major in Biology and Architectural Design, where she was first introduced to IC and urban infill housing. She has experience in affordable housing development and construction project management, and currently focuses on Execution and Creative Direction within Kit Switch.

Candice Delamarre,

Candice Delamarre is a 2nd year MS student in Sustainable Design and Construction at Stanford. During her undergraduate studies in France, she gained expertise in design engineering, energy systems and energy efficiency. She has experience working on business model creation, startup and sustainability consulting. She discovered Industrialized Construction last Spring and has since been working on Kit Switch, as Strategy & Design Lead.

Alexandra Diabre,

Alexandra graduated from Stanford in June 2020 with an M.S in Sustainable Design and Construction. She focused on construction management and is currently an engineer at Shimmick Constructions. Alexandra has expertise in the construction industry, especially in design, scheduling, estimating and construction logistics. She is passionate about innovative methods and was part of the Industrialized Construction class in spring. She currently works on logistics and operations with Kit Switch.

Benjamin Dillenburger, Assistant Professor, ETH Zurich

Architect Benjamin Dillenburger is Assistant Professor for Digital Building Technologies at the Institute of Technology In Architecture (ITA) at the Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich. His research focuses on the development of building technologies based on the close interplay of computational design methods, digital fabrication and new materials. In this context, he searches for ways to exploit the potential of additive manufacturing for building construction.

Niels Falk,
CEO, HD Lab

Niels Falk is the CEO and Head of Consulting and innovation at HD Lab, a consulting and technology company for industry partners in AEC to improve their organization through technology. With HD Lab, Niels Falk works with parametric design and platforms with a number of generative design cases – from Vejlands Kvarteret to CREE Denmark. HD Lab has also analyzed sustainable robotics and 3D-printing forn the Danish government as part of the Climate Partnership 2030

Luca Frattari is the Senior Director of Global AEC Business Development of Altair Engineering. He has been leading the deployment of premium technology for simulation and workflow simplification within this industry. This deployment has optimized the way firms design their products, while simultaneously winning new business and reducing design cycles. Frattari is a Business Development Specialist with over a decade of experience in Architecture Engineering and Construction, building and expanding business in global markets, identifying emerging trends and teaching revolutionary technologies.

Chris Giatinna,
CEO,  Blox

Chris Giatinna has more than 30 years’ experience in healthcare design, and the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. He is a registered architect, a licensed general contractor and a manufacturer. Chris and his team developed an open source-project delivery process called Design Manufacture Construct – design that uses manufacturing productivity to simplify construction. Unable to find a manufacturer interested in their work, he started BLOX as a ground-up manufacturing company organized around the principals of DMC.

Felix Heisel, Assistant Professor, Cornell University

Felix Heisel is an architect and academic working towards the systematic redesign of the built environment as a material depot of endless use and reconfiguration. At Cornell University, he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture, a faculty fellow at the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability and directs the Circular Construction Lab (CCL). In Germany, he is a partner at 2hs architects and engineers, an office specialized in the development of circular prototypologies, such as the Urban Mining and Recycling (UMAR) Unit in Switzerland. His work on circular construction has been widely published, such as the book publications Building from Waste (Birkhäuser, 2014), Cultivated Building Materials (Birkhäuser, 2018), and Urban Mining and Circular Construction (Fraunhofer, 2021).

With his unique and diverse experience in Carpentry, Construction and Manufacturing Management, Architecture, Digital Fabrication and Business management, Joel blends the traditions of construction with the latest techniques in digital design and fabrication. Delving into the future of the construction industry, adopting automation and the latest technology to explore efficient methods of integrating all stages of the design and construction process. It is this approach in which Joel formed Cnstrct’s and now Splash Modular's ideology and vision of changing the industry through good design.

Ian Keough, Founder, Hypar

Ian Keough is the CEO of Hypar, a cloud platform for generating buildings. Hypar is the continuation of more than a decade of Ian's research and development of software tools for automating the design and analysis of buildings. Before founding Hypar, Ian was the software architect for the AEC Generative Design team at Autodesk. In that role he worked on Dynamo, the open source visual programming language for Revit, which Ian started in 2010 before joining Autodesk. Ian joined Autodesk as part of the acquisition of Vela System where he worked after Vela's acquisition of his software goBIM, the first BIM visualization application for iOS. goBIM was developed during Ian's time at Buro Happold Consulting Engineers where he developed software to rationalize, optimize, and analyze complex structures.

Karim Khalifa, Director of Buildings Innovation, Sidewalk Labs

Karim is Director of Buildings Innovation for Sidewalk Labs. He has spent his career in the design and construction world, most recently leading the global hotel innovation and design team at Marriott, where he launched the company’s first innovation lab/collaborative design space (The Underground). While at Marriott, he also led the LEED Volume Build program for hotels and launched Marriott’s global modular construction initiative. Prior to joining Marriott, he managed Parsons Corporation’s South American engineering practice in Lima, Peru and earlier worked in Bechtel’s power and water resource group in the U.S. and overseas.

Berok Khoshnevis, CEO and Founder, Contour Crafting

Behrokh “Berok” Khoshnevis is the President and CEO of Contour Crafting Corporation (CC Corp), the Louise L. Dunn Distinguished Professor of Engineering and the Director of the Center for Rapid Automated Fabrication Technologies (CRAFT) at the University of Southern California. He is active in robotics, and mechatronics related research and development projects that include the development of several novel Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) processes such as Contour Crafting mega-scale fabrication, SIS, which is licensed to HP, for fabrication of polymeric and metallic parts and SSS for fabrication of high temperature alloys, ceramics and composites, as well as development of mechatronics systems for biomedical applications (e.g., digital dental prostheses fabrication, robotics for orthodontics, rehabilitation engineering, and tactile sensing devices), autonomous mobile and modular robots for fabrication and assembly on Earth, in space and on other planets, and specialized innovative equipment for oil and gas as well as renewable energy industries.

Oliver David Kreig,
CTO, Intelligent City

Oliver David Krieg is the Chief Technology Officer at Intelligent City in Vancouver, Canada. As an expert in computational design and digital fabrication in architecture, he is leading the development of the company’s parametrically designed and robotically manufactured high-rise mass timber construction system. This is part of the company's effort to provide transformative solutions for platform-based, sustainable and affordable urban housing. Oliver’s work is characterized by an integrative approach towards design, engineering, and manufacturing - re-conceptualizing how architecture can be designed, fabricated, and constructed. Before joining Intelligent City, Oliver worked as a group leader and research associate at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart.

Anusha Krishnamurthy, LEED AP BD+C, Co-Founder, Kit Switch

Anusha is a recent MS graduate from Sustainable Design and Construction at Stanford. She has four years of professional experience as a licensed Architect and offers expertise in end-to-end project operations and execution, negotiation and conflict management, sustainable design development, and building information modeling. She was part of Stanford’s Industrialized Construction course in Spring 2020 and currently focuses on Technology Development and End-to-end Operations with Kit Switch.

Samantha Liu, Co-Founder, Kit Switch

Samantha is currently working on her M.S. degree in Sustainable Design and Construction at Stanford University. In her undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, she has developed a deep understanding of energy and transportation systems and business financial models through coursework and various internships at design and consulting firms. With these skill sets, she helps Kit Switch optimize costs during manufacturing and operational phases as their Industrial Operations and Research Manager.

Agnès Petit Markowski, Founder and CEO, Mobbot

Agnès Petit Markowski is CEO and founder of Mobbot, a company developing digital fabrication systems and a novel 3D concrete printing technology for the construction industry.With more than 12 years in the innovation in construction, concrete and cement innovation, and 4 years in 3D concrete printing, Agnès Petit Markowski’s vision is to bring these new technologies on the job sites to increase productivity, reduce painful jobs and the carbon footprint. Her goal is to challenge the status quo of the 3D concrete printing and set a new standard of fabrication on the construction jobsites.

Amy Marks, Head of Industrialized Construction Strategy, Autodesk

Amy Marks is the Head of Industrialized Construction Strategy at Autodesk. Marks champions the use of optimized prefabrication across many building types including high-tech, healthcare, hospitality, data centers, residential and commercial buildings. Marks is the former CEO of XSite Modular, a leading prefabrication consultancy and design-builder of critical infrastructure buildings. As a prefabrication consultant, she defined the language and process that is adopted by companies, countries, and builders around the world.

Julieta Moradei, Partner, Hometeam Ventures, Head of Research and Development, New Story Charity

Julieta Moradei is Partner at Hometeam Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in and scales double bottom line startups that improve the construction life cycle by reducing cost, increasing speed, and improving quality, resulting in more adequate housing globally. Hometeam’s focus is affordable housing and construction, with six market-driven categories for investment: BIM & Digital twins, Finance, Project & Job Site Management, Supply Chain Optimization, Industrialized Construction (3D printing, modular, prefab), Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. She also is currently Head of Research and Development at New Story Charity, an organization pioneering solutions to end global homelessness. In partnership with ICON, New Story is bringing the world’s first 3D printed community to 50 families in Tabasco, Mexico.

Federico Negro, Founder and CEO of the Canoa Supply Co.

Federico Negro is the CEO and Founder of CANOA, the first scaling platform for the physical world. CANOA provides 21st century operators, occupiers, portfolio managers and brands easy-to-use automation tools, modular designs and access to top experts to quickly expand or shrink their real estate footprint while drastically reducing costs and environmental impact. Federico founded CANOA as a response to his own industry's environmental failings which he hopes to spend the rest of his career helping to improve. He was previously the Head of Design for WeWork, running their internal global design studio of more than 900 architects, interior designers, engineers and more. ‍Federico came to WeWork in 2015 through their acquisition of his first startup, CASE, an 8 year-old digital design consultancy based in New York City that focused on developing and implementing technology into Built Environment businesses.

Shanti Pless, Senior Research Engineer at National Renewable Energy Laboratory(NREL)

Shanti Pless joined the Buildings Research Group at NREL in 1999 with a focus on applied research and design processes for commercial building energy efficiency and building integrated renewable energy. This work has included facilitating numerous integrated design processes and energy modeling teams needed to realize cost-effective zero-energy commercial buildings. Shanti leads a portfolio of projects under the Industrialized Construction Innovation research area, through which NREL is leveraging the benefits of industrialized construction—higher-quality buildings, faster construction timelines, improved productivity, increased technology integration, and labor cost savings—to enable cost-effective strategies for energy efficiency, integrated grid-interactive controls, and renewables. He also manages the Whole Buildings Systems Integration section of Communities and Urban Science Research Group.

Jonas Spangenberg,
CEO, BoKlok

Jonas Spangenberg is CEO of BoKlok Housing AB, a Swedish, modular building company jointly owned by Ikea and Skanska that provides sustainable, quality homes at a low cost. BoKlok was founded in 1996 and the mission is to make it possible for people with average incomes to realise their dream of owning their own home. To date, BoKlok has developed about 13,000 homes in Sweden, Finland and Norway, and is currently entering the UK market. BoKlok is determined to be climate neutral by 2035 and has an ambitious strategy to reach this goal.

Mark Taylor, Senior Digital Construction Manager, Royal BAM Group

Mark Taylor is the Senior Digital Construction Manager at Royal BAM group. He is an experienced Digital Construction process and technology expert, who has worked in the International Construction industry for 20 years. He has been working at The Royal BAM Group since 2011 previously working for major International Civil Engineering consultancies. He works with the Royal BAM Group companies to ensure the effective adoption of international standards and Digital Construction best practices. His key focus is on increasing the adoption of construction technologies to de-risk, optimise and automate the construction process.

Gijs van der Velden,
CEO and Co-Founder of MX3D

Gijs van der Velden is the CEO of MX3D, a robotic 3D metal printing company with the mission to introduce the advantages of 3D metal printing to new, high impact industries like building, Oil and Gas and tooling. MX3D is supported by partners like Autodesk, ABB, Lenovo, Imperial College London and ArcelorMittal. After completing several experiments, Art Pieces and a Bicycle MX3D set out on a journey to 3D print a metal bridge over a canal in the Red Light District of Amsterdam to show the potential of its technique. Printing, testing and approval has been completed and MX3D aims to place the bridge in 2021. The company also launched MetalXL, a license to its technology, allowing other parties to print large metal structures in house.

Alain Waha, Cofounder, Cogital, BuroHappold Engineering

Alain Waha is the global lead for BIM and Digital Transformation at BuroHappold Engineering.  Reporting to the Global Design & Technology Director, Alain’s work since 2014 has been to institutionalize BIM across this global practice, and to implement technology initiatives.  He is also works with digital startups in #proptech and Automotive.  Alain joined the construction industry in 2008 after a career in Aerospace and Automotive.  Since entering the AEC sector, he held roles as CEO of VC backed CAD firms and BIM services firms where he delivered BIM transformation and digital implementation.  His experience now spans the breadth the AEC sector in term of supply chain, geography and projects.  Alain Waha is Co-Founder of Cogital, a digital agency for the AEC industry helping clients fro, strategy formulation to implementation, with a focus on BIM, process Automation, Digital Collaboration, and new business models incubation.

Martin Fischer, Director, CIFE & Kumagai Professor in the School of Engineering

Professor Fischer is the director of the Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE) at Stanford University. His research goals are to improve the productivity of project teams involved in designing, building, and operating facilities and to enhance the sustainability of the built environment. His work develops the theoretical foundations and applications for virtual design and construction (VDC). VDC methods support the design of a facility and its delivery process and help reduce the costs and maximize the value over its lifecycle. His research has been used by many small and large industrial government organizations around the world.

Daniel Hall
ETH Zürich

Daniel Hall is Assistant Professor of Innovative and Industrial Construction at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering of ETH Zürich. His research seeks to enhance governance, productivity, and innovation in construction through a transformation from fragmented project delivery methods to new organizational models that integrate the supply chain of the fragmented construction industry. His current research topics include: Industrialized Construction, Governance of Integrated Project Delivery, Blockchain in Construction, Adoption of Systemic Innovations, Industry 4.0, and Entrepreneurship in AEC.

Daniel holds a PhD (2017) and MSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University. He also holds a Bachelor of Science (2008) in Architectural Engineering from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. He is founder and organizer of the Stanford Industrialized Construction Forum since 2014.

Jerker Lessing, Director of Research & Development, BoKlok, and Adjunct Prof., Stanford University

With a PhD from Lund University, Sweden, focused on strategic aspects of industrialized construction, Lessing has the position as Director of Research & Development at BoKlok, Sweden’s leading housing company within industrialized construction. BoKlok is a joint venture between the Construction Company Skanska and the furniture Company IKEA. Before joining BoKlok, he worked for one of Sweden's leading engineering firms, Tyréns AB, where he led a team of Consultants focusing on Construction innovation. He was also engaged by leading Construction and housing companies as a consultant and advisor for numerous innovation- and development projects aimed at industrialized construction.

Juliana Berglund-Brown
Stanford University

Juliana Berglund-Brown is in her final year studying Civil Engineering at Stanford. Most recently, Juliana was a Schneider Fellow at the US Green Building Council working with the LEED and Arc teams to develop and evaluate new approaches to sustainability scoring for spaces, buildings, and places. The previous summer Juliana worked for the modular building company BoKlok where she developed water solutions for a pilot, off-grid housing project.She has previously worked for New Story Charity, where she conducted research on 3D Printed building technologies and IC in developing economies.  Her introduction to IC happened when she took Jerker Lessing’s IC class at Stanford, for which she now serves as a Teaching Assistant.
